Through God’s leading, The Plain Gospel Mission, Wayne and Carolyn Brown, became involved with the Albergue in September 2000. They, along with José Luis Banda, hold positions in the board of directors, along with four of its founders. All decisions concerning the Albergue are prayerfully decided jointly. The Albergue receives some support from within Mexico, but it is not enough to even modestly care for the children living there. That year, there were 58 children being cared for. To feed and provide utilities for these children, they need supporters from the U.S.
The Albergue El Elohe is a shelter in Galeana, Nuevo Leon. American Christians built it for the purpose of providing food, shelter, and a godly environment for children needing a place to live while obtaining their education. The shelter was originally built to care for children in Junior High and High School. Most of the villages do not have these schools available. Now there are children, ages 3 to 17, attending the local schools in Galeana. The shelter is registered and acknowledged by the Mexican government.
The children that live within the Albergue do not usually come from Christian homes. Sometimes they come from horrible home lives. Therefore, it is urgent that we reach these precious children with the gospel. Most children spend 10 and a half months with us each year. They have a six-week vacation each summer when they are encouraged to visit family or friends. Sometimes there are children spending the vacation at the Albergue due to a lack of family. Most of these children come from homes without running water, electricity or enough food. There is no way their families can support their care in the Albergue.
Since beginning work with the shelter in 2000, we began to see the need for having a separate home for the elementary aged children. Although the number of children varies, mostly due to changing family circumstances, we usually had about 12 children from 3 years to 11 years old living in our 2 small rented houses. In January of 2002 we began building a family type home for the children. We had planned to house 18 children as well as the staff to care for them. The children moved into the home in August, 2003. We are very grateful to the donations of prayer, money, and even your time spent with us helping to make this possible.
As of September, 2005, we have 26 younger children living in the home. There are 32 older children living in the Albergue.
To provide for these children, we started the “support a child” program. For $25.00 a month, a child can be fed. For another $25.00 a month, the utilities and school fees can be provided. Sponsorships are available for elementary age children and Jr. and Sr. High School children. If you choose to sponsor a child, we ask that you pray for that child. If you would like to send a birthday or Christmas gift that would also be appreciated. As always, we would love to have you come and visit us and the children in Galeana.
